Position/Title: Staff/Senior Aerosol Scientist
Reports To: Director, Pharmaceutical Development
- Function:
The Aerosol Scientist is responsible for creating new and innovative aerosol technologies and device concepts across all platforms at MAP. The Aerosol Scientist is also responsible for developing mechanistic understanding on different phenomenon observed during aerosol generation and delivery; developing new aerosol characterization methods; improving the existing aerosol characterization methods; and fine tuning the existing aerosol generators to fit different formulations. The Scientist is also expected to support particle engineering and particle/formulation characterization efforts. The Aerosol Scientist works in collaboration with the internal MAP engineers, scientists, and program/project management functions as well as appropriate external design and vendors to take concepts from first inception and facilitate their development into commercial articles and processes. - Specific Responsibilities and Activities :
- Designs and develops new aerosolization technologies and device design concepts for dry powders, propellant driven systems and liquids, generating new IP in these areas. Develops product design concepts and creates prototypes in collaboration with design and development teams using Finite Element Analysis and other methods.
- Develops mechanistic understanding on different phenomenon observed during aerosol generation and delivery
- Develops new (more efficient) aerosol characterization methods and continue improving the existing aerosol characterization methods.
- Fine tunes the existing aerosol generators to fit different formulations.
- Supports particle engineering and particle/formulation characterization efforts.
- Performs CFD, thermodynamics and statistical analysis.
- Leads the discovery, definition, design, and evaluation of new products. Works internally and with vendors to produce first proof-of-concept articles i.e. test-beds/rigs, non-functional and functional models and prototypes
- Drives R&D activities forward by improving processes and operations, using creative problem solving to identify areas for improvement and novel research
- Verifies and improves design concepts by (i) modeling aerosol and fluid transport behaviors using techniques including CFD and (ii) functional testing.
- Continually researches innovations in the field and strives to create cutting edge technology beyond the current state of the art.
- Performs product and device troubleshooting for diagnosing root causes for component or system failures, tracks failure modes, and authors investigation reports
- Runs brainstorming sessions in MAP community, presents findings from conferences, encourages creative thinking within technical teams.
- Requirements:
- Education:
- PhD in Chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other related field, with a major emphasis in fluid and particle dynamics and heat and mass transfer, with 3 or more year industrial experience in computational fluid analysis.
- Training and Experience :
- More than 8 years direct experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industries.
- Proven knowledge and experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics, aerosol transport and dynamics, gas species transport, thermodynamics, gas and surface chemistry and interphase mass, momentum and energy coupling and statistical analysis.
- Proven knowledge and experience working with different unit operations, preferably spray drying and supercritical fluid apparatus.
- Proven knowledge and experience in model and code and/or subroutine development and grid generation and post processing and visualization.
- Proven knowledge and experience working on aerosol science and technology, preferably in pulmonary drug delivery arena.
- Proven track record of innovation as evidenced by patents and patent applications, publications and concepts that have been accepted into further development.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask in high pressure, changing conditions
- Other:
- Excellent analytical and creativity skills, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, seeking always to drive innovation where possible.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task while remaining calm and sensitive to confidential/personal nature of material.
- Capable of working independently and as a part of a larger team
- Must comply with MAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc. safety and corporate policies
- Education:
